Geothermal

What is Geothermal Energy

Geothermal is derived from Greek words geo (earth) and therme (heat). So geothermal engery is the use of the Earth's heat to heat and cool your home. While temperatures above ground change from day to day, temperatures in the upper 10 feet of the Earth's surface remain a constant 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit. With the use of geothermal heat pumps we are able to caputure this heat produced by the Earth and transfer it to your home.

The Geothermal Process

Loops of piping are buried on your property. The ground loop is connected to a pumping module inside your home that circulates a water anti-freeze mixture through the piping. In the winter, heat is absorbed from the earth. The heated liquid travels to a heat exchanger where it is converted to warm air through a refrigerant process. Then it is distributed through the duct work of your home at the temperature you desire. In the summer the process is reversed. Warm air is taken from the home and transfered back into the Earth.

Benefits of Geothermal

  • Lower energy bills: Save as much as 30-70% on your monthly utility bills with a geothermal heating/cooling system.
  • Geothermal energy is a renewable resource that is non-polluting. The anti-freeze mixture is a non-toxic biodegradable substance and the loop piping is thermal fused to minimize the chance of leakage.
  • No dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Longer lifespan than conventional systems. A geothermal system can last up to 50 years.
  • Geothermal increases the re-sale value of your home.
